Our mission, addressing our clients’ immediate basic needs while helping them regain self-sufficiency, is accomplished through these programs.

Client Services
A full-time, bilingual staff sees 400 clients and counsels another 50 by phone each month to assess and handle their needs with our many programs.

Clothing
We have temporarily closed the Clothes Closet and will reopen it sometime in 2008. For alternate donation sites, click here.

Medical Clinics
Free primary and specialty care are provided to an expanding number of uninsured adults and children. We provide about 8,000 patient visits each year at our Samaritan House Medical Clinics. Dental and Ophthalmology services, along with free medications are also provided. The Samaritan House clinics are located in San Mateo and Redwood City.

Food and Nutrition
Hot nutritious meals and bags of food are provided to our clients daily. Over 200 individuals are served hot meals in our dining hall five nights a week. Special programs include Mobile Meals food delivery to the elderly and disabled, lunches for local children’s tutoring programs, and meals delivered to other agencies. Each month over 400 food boxes are distributed to over 5,000 people including many families.

Shelter
Year-round shelter is available to the homeless. In addition to a warm bed, we also offer meals, drug and alcohol counseling, referrals, job training programs, and housing assistance to 90 homeless individuals per night.

Holiday Assistance
Approximately 1,000 low-income families receive help with food baskets and toys during the holidays. Items are provided to clients through our food distribution centers at local elementary schools and our Toy Shoppe at 1515 S. Claremont St., San Mateo.. Samaritan House also delivers food boxes and toys to people unable to make it to the distribution centers.

Worker Resource Center
The Worker Resource Center, a collaboration with Samaritan House and the City of San Mateo, provides an alternative location for day laborers and potential employers to meet for work. Approximately 21% of the workers who utilize the center are employed daily.
